Flipkart Image Requirements 2026: Size, Background and Rules for Sellers
That last sentence matters more than any number below. Flipkart doesn’t publish one universal image spec that every seller guide agrees on. We checked the guides ranking for this topic while writing this post, and they disagree on the minimum size, on whether PNG is accepted, and on whether white is allowed for clothing at all. Anyone who gives you a single confident table is smoothing over that.
So this post gives you the figures sellers most often report, marks where they conflict, and shows you how to confirm the final answer for your own category in about five minutes.
What are Flipkart’s image requirements?
Here’s what the seller guides and integrator documentation most commonly report. Treat the “conflict” column as a reason to check, not a footnote.

Our advice: shoot at 2000 x 2000 px or above and export down. You can always shrink a sharp image. You can’t rescue a soft one.
What image size does Flipkart need?
Aim for 1000 x 1000 px at the very least, and shoot bigger. The 500 x 500 px minimum appears in several guides, but that number gets you a listing that technically uploads and looks mushy when a buyer pinches to zoom. Zoom is where jewellery, fabric and electronics sales are won or lost.
Square matters because Flipkart’s grid and zoom crop to 1:1. A vertical or horizontal photo gets padded or cropped, and the crop is never in your favour. (The one major exception in our market is fashion on Myntra, which wants 3:4. That’s a different marketplace and a different post: see our Myntra image guidelines.)
Background: white for most, grey for clothing
For most categories, the main image sits on a plain white background with no props, no gradient and no shadow that looks like a second object.
Clothing is where sellers get tripped up. Some guides, including one built on Fynd’s documentation, say apparel wants a light grey backdrop with a soft shadow and that pure white isn’t accepted. Other guides say white is fine. Both can be true at different times, in different sub-categories, for different seller tiers. This is the single best reason to open your category’s guidelines in Seller Hub rather than trust a blog, ours included.
The five-minute check in Seller Hub
Before you book a shoot, do this once:
-
Log in to Seller Hub and start a new listing in your exact category and sub-category.
-
Open the image guidelines or “photography guidelines” link on the listing form.
-
Screenshot the requirements for your category, and note today’s date on the screenshot.
-
Upload one test image and see what the quality check says.
-
Send the screenshot to your photographer with the order.
Step 5 is the one people skip. A photographer who has your category’s rules in hand shoots the right ratio, the right background and the right angles the first time. A photographer working from memory reshoots.
The shots a Flipkart listing needs
Start with the first image, because it decides your click-through rate in search.
-
Image 1: front view, product only, plain background, nothing else in frame. For a multi-pack, show every unit.
-
Image 2: back or side view. Clothing needs front and back.
-
Image 3: a detail shot, such as fabric weave, stitching, a port, a hinge or a clasp.
-
Image 4: scale or in-use. Hands holding a gadget, a bag on a shoulder.
-
Image 5 onward: variants, packaging contents, and a size chart if the category supports it.
Flipkart lets you upload more than the minimum in most categories, and the sellers who use the extra slots usually win the comparison click. How many is enough? That depends on the product, and we’ve written up the logic in how many product photos you actually need and how many angles.
Why Flipkart rejects product images
Rejections cluster around a short list of mistakes. The ones that come up again and again:
-
Image smaller than the minimum, blurry or pixelated
-
A coloured or cluttered background on the main image
-
Product too small in the frame, or cropped at the edge
-
Watermarks, promotional text, prices, stickers or borders
-
Illustrated or heavily digital images instead of a real photograph
-
A photo that doesn’t match the listing: wrong colour, wrong pattern, different model
-
Mannequins in apparel
-
Packaging or accessories in the main image when they aren’t part of what’s listed
-
Screenshots or images copied from another seller
Most of these are shooting and editing problems, not upload problems. A rejected image costs you days, because you reshoot or re-edit and then wait for approval again.
Should you shoot it yourself or hire a studio?
If you sell ten flat, simple products, you can do this with a phone, a window and a white sheet. We wrote an honest comparison in DIY vs professional product photography.
The cost curve flips when you have volume, or when the product is difficult: shiny, transparent, tiny, or worn on a body. Consistency across 200 SKUs is hard to fake with a phone, and a catalogue that looks uniform reads as a bigger, more trustworthy seller. For pricing, see our product photography cost guide for India.
Our studio in Sector 6, Rohini, Delhi shoots Flipkart catalogues to a category’s own rules, and our starting rate of Rs 49 per photo applies to eligible high-volume catalogue work (standardised products, repeatable setups). Anything involving models, jewellery or styled scenes is quoted by the shoot. See the Flipkart photography page for the services.
FAQ
What is the image size for Flipkart?
Square, 1:1, at least 1000 x 1000 px is the safe target. Some guides cite 500 x 500 px as the minimum, but that is too small for a zoom that holds up. Shoot larger and export down.
Does Flipkart accept PNG?
Sources conflict. JPEG is the format every guide agrees on, so export as JPEG in sRGB and avoid the question.
Is a white background mandatory on Flipkart?
For most categories, yes, on the main image. Apparel is the usual exception, where light grey with a soft shadow is often cited. Check your category in Seller Hub.
How many images can I upload to a Flipkart listing?
At least two are expected, three or more are better, and the maximum depends on the category. Use all the slots that make sense for the product.
Can I add text or a logo on Flipkart product images?
Not on the main image. Watermarks, promotional text, prices and borders are common rejection reasons.
Why was my Flipkart image rejected?
The usual causes are low resolution, a cluttered or coloured background, a product that’s too small or cropped, overlaid text or a watermark, or a photo that doesn’t match the listing details.
Can I use AI-generated or edited images on Flipkart?
Illustrated or digitally created images are a reported rejection reason. If you retouch, keep the product’s real colour, shape and details accurate.
Specs in this post are compiled from seller guides and integrator documentation, because Flipkart doesn’t publish a single public spec sheet we could cite. Last checked October 2026. Confirm your category in Seller Hub before bulk shooting.
