Product Photography Cost per Photo in India: What Rs 49, Rs 99 and Rs 500 Really Buy
In India, product photography per photo ranges from about Rs 45-75 for a bare white-background shot to Rs 500 or more for styled and lifestyle images, and well above that for jewellery. A Rs 49 rate is real but narrow: it fits standardised, high-volume catalogue work. The price per photo tells you far less than what’s included and how many photos each product needs.
If you’ve collected quotes, you’ve probably seen Rs 49 from one studio and Rs 500 from another for something called “a product photo.” Both can be honest. They’re quoting different jobs.
Here’s how to tell which job you’re actually buying.
What is the average price for product photography per image in India?
There’s no single market price, and sources disagree with each other, so here are two views side by side.

The left column comes from a Delhi studio’s 2026 pricing page; the right is from our product photography cost guide. The spread between them isn’t an error. It reflects a real gap between the volume-pricing end of the market and the bespoke end. Use both as a sanity check, not a rate card.
What does Rs 49 per photo buy?
Rs 49 buys a very specific kind of job: a simple product, shot the same way as dozens of others, on a clean background, in volume. Think plain kurtas on hangers, bottles, boxes, accessories, a batch of similar SKUs. The setup is repeated, the lighting is locked, the edit is templated, and the per-photo cost drops because the studio isn’t reinventing anything.
It does not buy a styled scene, a model, a custom prop set, jewellery macro work, or a one-off creative concept. At SnapRich the Rs 49 starting rate applies to eligible high-volume, standardised catalogue work, and anything outside that is priced by the shoot. A starting rate is a floor, not a promise for every product.
The honest question isn’t “is Rs 49 too cheap to be good?” It’s “is my job the kind of job that rate was built for?” For a 300-SKU marketplace catalogue of simple items, yes, often. For six hero products for your own website, no.
What does Rs 99 buy?
Usually the same kind of job with a little more care: a second angle, light retouching, or a lower minimum order. Rs 99 sits in the zone where small and mid-size sellers on Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho tend to land: cleaner than a bare-minimum shot, still templated.
What does Rs 500 buy?
Time and decisions. Rs 500 per image typically means someone is styling the product, choosing props, shaping the light for that specific item, and spending real minutes in retouching. Lifestyle shots, textured products, and anything reflective sits here and above. If your product sells on feel, such as a candle, a leather bag or a watch, this is the tier that earns the premium. If it sells on price and speed, this tier is overspend.
A 100-SKU example
Take the same 100 products and run the sums at the three rates. This is arithmetic, not a quote.
|
Images per product |
At Rs 49 |
At Rs 99 |
At Rs 500 |
|---|---|---|---|
|
1 (main image only) |
Rs 4,900 |
Rs 9,900 |
Rs 50,000 |
|
4 (main, back, detail, side) |
Rs 19,600 |
Rs 39,600 |
Rs 2,00,000 |
Two lessons jump out. First, images per product moves the total as much as the rate does: going from one image to four quadruples the bill whatever you pay per frame. Second, a Rs 500 rate on four images per product costs roughly ten times a Rs 49 rate. That’s only worth it if the extra work changes how many units sell.
To budget your own job: SKUs x images per SKU x rate, plus add-ons for models, props, rush delivery and complex editing.
What’s usually not included
Per-photo prices go wrong in the fine print. Before you say yes to any quote, including ours, ask whether each of these is in the rate:
-
Background removal and clipping paths
-
Dust, scratch and wrinkle cleanup
-
Shadow or reflection work
-
Colour matching to the actual product
-
Props and styling
-
Studio and light setup time
-
Revisions, and how many
-
Final file size, format and ratio for your marketplace
-
Rush delivery (we offer 24-72 hour express on request)
-
A minimum order quantity
A “Rs 100 image with editing included” and a “Rs 100 image followed by separate retouching charges” are two different prices. Many surprise invoices come from exactly that.
How to pick a rate tier
A simple rule of thumb:
-
Marketplace-first, many SKUs, simple products: start at the volume tier and ask for a sample.
-
D2C brand, fewer products, brand look matters: mid-tier, with a defined style.
-
Premium or visually complex products (jewellery, glassware, textured materials): bespoke pricing, and pay for it.
-
Fashion: mix. Ghost or flat for volume, on-model for hero styles.
Compare studios on a sample shoot of two or three of your real products, not on the price list. What to look for is covered in what ecommerce sellers should look for in a product photography studio. And if you’re tempted to do it all yourself, DIY vs professional product photography lays out where that stops saving money.
Why is product photography so expensive?
Sometimes it isn’t, as the Rs 49 tier shows. When it is, the cost is people and time: a photographer, an assistant, lighting kit and a studio that you pay for whether it’s busy or not, then editing hours per image. Complex products multiply the time. That’s why price tracks the difficulty of the product more than the length of the job.
Our Delhi product photography page lists the services. If you send us a category and a SKU count, we’ll tell you which tier it falls into.
FAQ
What is the average price for product photography per image?
In India it ranges from around Rs 45-75 for a basic white-background shot to Rs 250-500 for styled images, and well above that for jewellery and complex products. Sources vary, so treat any range as indicative.
Is Rs 49 per photo a realistic price for product photography?
Yes, for standardised, high-volume catalogue work with simple products and repeatable setups. It isn’t realistic for styled shoots, models or jewellery.
Who offers product photography from Rs 49 per photo in India?
Several studios advertise starting rates around that level. SnapRich in Rohini, Delhi starts at Rs 49 per photo for eligible high-volume catalogue work.
What’s the cheapest way to get 100 products photographed?
Pick a studio that does bulk, standardised catalogue work, limit images per product to what the marketplace needs, and ask what’s included in the rate. At Rs 49 per photo, 100 products with one image each is Rs 4,900.
Why do product photography prices vary so much?
Because the work varies: simple versus difficult products, one angle versus four, templated edits versus custom retouching, with or without props and models.
Do per-photo rates include editing?
Not always. Ask whether background removal, retouching and revisions are included before you compare quotes.
Market ranges in this post come from published pricing pages, last checked October 2026, and are indicative rather than fixed tariffs.
